North Carolina Senior Morgan Evans Named Week 9 EAGL Gymnast of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 6, 2012) – North Carolina senior Morgan Evans has been named the EAGL Gymnast of the Week. Teammate and classmate Zoya Johnson scored EAGL Specialist of the Week honors, while Pitt freshman Haley Bodenheimer was named the EAGL Rookie of the Week for the third time.

EAGL Gymnast of the Week – Morgan Evans, Senior, North Carolina

In a meet against two ranked opponents, North Carolina senior Morgan Evans paced the Tar Heels with a second place, career-best 39.375 all-around showing. Evans also tied her personal-best vault score of 9.85, good enough for sixth place, and matched her career-best floor score of 9.875 for a third-place finish. She additionally placed fifth on bars (9.85) and seventh on beam (9.8).

EAGL Specialist of the Week – Zoya Johnson, Senior, North Carolina

North Carolina senior Zoya Johnson returned to the Tar Heels’ beam lineup after a two-week absence and earned a personal-best 9.8, good enough for a share of seventh place at Penn State. Johnson also finished second on vault with a career-best 9.9. She rounded out her meet with a fifth place, 9.85 showing on bars.

EAGL Rookie of the Week – Haley Bodenheimer, Freshman, Pittsburgh

Pitt freshman Haley Bodenheimer scores her third award of the season after finishing first overall against George Washington with a career-best 39.2 score. The freshman’s score was the first 39.0-plus showing of her career. She also won vault with a career-high 9.85 and finished second on bars and beam with respective 9.825 and 9.8 marks; her bars score also was a career best. She also placed fourth on floor with a 9.725.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (February 28, 2012) – New Hampshire senior Ali Carr has been named the EAGL Gymnast of the Week. NC State junior Rachel Fincham earned EAGL Specialist of the Week honors, while teammate Lane Jarred scored Rookie of the Week accolades.

EAGL Gymnast of the Week – Ali Carr, Senior, New Hampshire

In an upset win over then-No. 23 West Virginia, New Hampshire senior co-captain Ali Carr registered the Wildcats’ top finish on vault (9.825) to notch fourth place in that event, then followed up with a season-high 9.9 on uneven bars for second place. Carr capped her memorable evening by setting a personal best with a 9.9 on balance beam to take the top spot on that apparatus.

EAGL Specialist of the Week – Rachel Fincham, Junior, NC State

NC State junior Rachel Fincham paced the Wolfpack on bars in the team’s home quad-meet with a 9.9, good enough for a first-place tie with fellow Pack gymnast Stephanie Ouellette. Fincham collected a second-place finish on beam with a score of 9.875. The Wolfpack junior competed on floor for the first time this season and scored a 9.825, good for second in the event. Today’s honor is her second of the season.

EAGL Rookie of the Week – Lane Jarred, Freshman, NC State

NC State freshman Lane Jarred followed up a great performance on beam in her last meet with another great score on Friday in the team’s home quad-meet, recording a 9.875 to claim second in the event. Jarred also competed on floor and turned in a score of 9.775, good enough for a ninth-place finish. Today’s honor is her second of the season.

Durkac, Sloanhoffer Named Week 7 EAGL co-Gymnasts of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (February 21, 2012) – North Carolina junior Elizabeth Durkac and West Virginia sophomore Hope Sloanhoffer have been named EAGL co-Gymnasts of the Week. NC State senior Brooke Barr was named the EAGL Specialist of the Week, while Pitt freshman Haley Sedgewick garnered the EAGL Rookie of the Week honor.

Elizabeth Durkac, Junior, North Carolina

North Carolina junior Elizabeth Durkac wins her second honor in three weeks after finishing first in the all-around, her second victory of the season, with a personal-best score of 39.225 against Temple on Feb. 17. She also won bars (9.85) and beam (9.85) with personal-best scores, and finished second on floor (9.8) and third on vault (9.725).

Hope Sloanhoffer, Sophomore, West Virginia

West Virginia sophomore Hope Sloanhoffer wins her third honor of the year after scoring her sixth 39.0-plus score of the season with a 39.15 all-around win at Maryland on Feb. 18. She also won beam with a season-high 9.875. Additionally, she finished second on bars with a career-best 9.85 score, helping WVU to a season-high 49.175 team score. Sloanhoffer also scored 9.75 on floor and 9.675 on vault.

EAGL Specialist of the Week: Brooke Barr, Senior NC State

NC State senior Brooke Barr paced the Wolfpack on vault with a 9.9, good for first place, against New Hampshire on Feb. 17; the mark was a season high and tied her career best. Barr later scored a 9.875 on floor and won the event; she also tallied 9.725 on beam.

EAGL Rookie of the Week: Haley Sedgewick, Freshman, Pitt

Pitt freshman Haley Sedgewick scored three career-best marks against Bowling Green and finished first on floor (9.8) and the all-around (38.65). She also tallied a career high on beam (9.725) and finished third with the meet’s second-best score. Sedgewick finished her day with a 9.65 vault score and a 9.475 bars mark.

Panza, Ham and Gray Take Week 6 EAGL Honors

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (February 14, 2012) – NC State’s Jess Panza and Diahanna Ham have been named the EAGL Gymnast and Specialist of the Week, respectively. New Hampshire’s Kayla Gray is the league’s Rookie of the Week.

EAGL Gymnast of the Week – Jess Panza, Senior, NC State

NC State senior Jess Panza recorded a pair of 9.9s on beam and floor to power the Wolfpack to an upset win over No. 10 Penn State on Feb. 11. The New York, N.Y., native has been excellent on beam this season and leads the league in beam average (9.833). She is currently tied for 14th nationally on beam. Panza’s floor score matched her career best and was good for first in the event, while her beam mark earned her second place. She also finished fifth on bars with a 9.775 score.

EAGL Specialist of the Week – Diahanna Ham, Sophomore, NC State

NC State junior Diahanna Ham tied the school record with a 9.95 on vault to finish first in the event in the Pack’s upset win over No. 10 Penn State on Feb. 11. Ham’s vault was the team’s highest score in the event since 2004; she became just the third Wolfpack gymnast to score a 9.95 on vault. The Boston, Mass., native also scored 9.875 on floor and finished second.

EAGL Rookie of the Week – Kayla Gray, Freshman, New Hampshire

New Hampshire freshman Kayla Gray scored a personal-best 9.9 to secure first place on balance beam at Penn on Feb. 10. The Buffalo, N.Y., native also earned a career-high 9.825 on floor to give her a share of first place. Gray has notched UNH’s top beam score in four of the last five meets.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (February 7, 2012) - North Carolina junior Elizabeth Durkac has been named the EAGL Gymnast of the Week. Maryland sophomore Katy Dodds earned the EAGL Specialist of the Week honor, while Pitt freshman Haley Bodenheimer scored her second straight EAGL Rookie of the Week award.

EAGL Gymnast of the Week – Elizabeth Durkac, Junior, North Carolina

North Carolina junior Elizabeth Durkac won two individual event titles – all-around and uneven bars – in a three-team meet at Maryland on Feb. 5. The Yorktown, Va., native scored a personal-best 39.15 to capture the all-around and had a 9.825 to win the uneven bars. She eclipsed her previous best score in the all-around by more than a half point. Durkac also finished with a person-best vault score of 9.725 to finish in eighth place and had a 9.8 on beam, good enough for third. She also scored 9.775 on floor for fifth place.

EAGL Specialist of the Week – Katy Dodds, Sophomore, Maryland

Maryland sophomore Katy Dodds tied for second on vault on Feb. 5 with an explosive performance that earned her a 10.00 from the head judge. The Gaithersburg, Md., native finished with a season-high 9.9, good enough for a second-place tie. Dodds followed up her performance on vault with an event-winning and personal-best 9.875 on floor. She also finished 10th on bars with a 9.6 mark.

EAGL Rookie of the Week – Haley Bodenheimer, Freshman, Pitt

Pitt freshman Haley Bodenheimer wins her second straight honor after scoring career highs on vault (9.775), beam (9.825) and in the all-around (39.025) on Saturday night in a quad-meet, which included two EAGL teams. Her beam score was high enough for first place, and her all-around score was just 0.05 behind the winning score. Haley has not scored lower than a 9.8 on floor the entire season. Her scores helped lead Pitt to its best team score in two seasons. Haley also scored 9.625 on bars and 9.8 on floor.
