Sloanhoffer, Richardson and Bodenheimer Earn Week 4 EAGL Honors

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (January 31, 2012) – West Virginia sophomore Hope Sloanhoffer has been named the EAGL Gymnast of the Week. WVU junior Alaska Richardson earned the EAGL Specialist of the Week award, while Pitt freshman Haley Bodenheimer was named the Rookie of the Week.

EAGL Gymnast of the Week – Hope Sloanhoffer, West Virginia, Sophomore

Sloanhoffer wins her second EAGL Gymnast of the Week honor of the season on the heels of her second all-around victory of 2012. Sloanhoffer scored her third career 39.0-plus point total with a winning 39.2 mark against George Washington and Towson. She also tied for first on vault with a season-high 9.875 and finished second on bars with a career-best 9.8. She rounded out her day with a fourth place, 9.775 showing on floor and a fifth place, 9.75 mark on beam.

EAGL Specialist of the Week – Alaska Richardson, West Virginia, Junior

West Virginia junior Alaska Richardson registered her second straight career-best floor mark and won the event outright with a 9.875 showing against George Washington and Towson. Richardson previously scored a then-career best 9.85 last week and 9.825 on Jan. 8. Additionally, she tied for first on vault with a season-best 9.875; she has earned the score twice this season.

EAGL Rookie of the Week – Haley Bodenheimer, Pitt, Freshman

Pitt freshman Haley Bodenheimer tied for first in the all-around, her second straight all-around victory, in just her third collegiate competition. She finished with a 38.825, which tied with Ohio State’s Colleen Dean, nationally ranked No. 36. Haley also earned her second straight floor win with a 9.85; she has earned a 9.85 on floor in consecutive weeks. All four of Haley’s scores counted for Pitt this week.
